The year 2023 will mark 40 years since Rob Tucher officially recorded his first HABS and HAER historic documentation projects in large-format black&white film.  Since 1983, he has provided professional analog photographic documentation services to the exacting standards of the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) and, more recently, the Historic American Landscape Survey (HALS).

He has built a huge collection of archival black & white large-format images of historic structures.

HABS / HAER / HALS Standards

  1.  Much of Rob’s work has been directed to the Prints and Photographs Division (Architecture, Design, and Engineering Collections) of the Library of Congress in Washington, DC and he has completed hundreds of documents to HABS/HAER/HALS Standards of just about every type of historic structure.

For the next 40 years (he’s only 66!) he intends to draw from this collection, providing signed, archival digital ink jet prints to those with an appreciation for his subjects and fine black & white photography.  Archival silver prints produced by Rob can also be ordered by special arrangement.

Testimonials

" I have worked with Rob while he was at The Louis Berger Group, but also through his private company. Most of this work was for HABS documentation and while that requires a technical eye, Rob also has an artistic eye. Rob captures buildings, details, landscapes and settings beautifully. He meets deadlines (which are most often tight!) and is easy to work with. Rob is our go-to photographer for our projects. "

"We hired Rob to support a FEMA project in New Orleans which required photography of National Register-eligible buildings to HABS/HAER/HALS standards. Although we submitted Rob's qualifications to the client for approval, they indicated that we need not do this as they were very familiar (and impressed) with his work on FEMA and other projects in the Greater New Orleans area and beyond. The deliverables that Rob provided for the project were well-received and praised by the client."

"I have worked with Rob for over 20 years, first as a colleague and then as client. His photographs are more than technically correct to project specs - they are artistic and occasionally breathtaking. Rob delivers high quality HABS/HAER and other photographs but also works with the team to select the best images to match the desired product. He also always delivers on time and on budget."
